Duane Bruce Cass

Duane Bruce Cass, of Evart, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at his home surrounded by family and friends after a long fought battle with a debilitating disease. He was 78.

Cass was born Oct. 6, 1937, to Bruce and Muriel (Shannon) Cass. He was a lifelong resident of Evart. Duane entered the U.S. National Guard in 1955 and the served active duty in the U.S. Army from 1957 until he was discharged in 1962. 

He married Alice (Joslin) Cass Dec. 4, 1965, in Marion and they celebrated their 50th anniversary with a party last summer. Cass served on the Evart Fire Deptartment as both captain and chief. He also was a founding member of the Evart Auxiliary Police Deptment. Cass was well known for helping people fix their cars and plowed for many local people and businesses for years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, travelling and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

Duane is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alice (Joslin) Cass of Evart; two daughters, Shellie (Denny) Danneels of Hersey and Debbie (Tim) Pant of Cadillac; six grandchildren, Brandie (Pete) Cornell of Big Rapids, Brooke (Cliff) Hetrick of Chase, Shayne (Amanda) Adams of Big Rapids, Zachary (Stephanie) Pant of Cadillac, Josh (Hannah) Pant of McBain and Justin Danneels of Grand Rapids; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Tryon of Evart; one brother, Paul Cass of Evart; and one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Cass of Evart. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his two sisters, Jean Landaker, Donna Scroggins, and his two brothers, Dick Cass and Harold Cass.

Funeral Services for Duane Bruce Cass will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart with Rev. Mike Baynai officiating. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Evart
