Dorothy Ruth VanBurgel

EVART — Dorothy Ruth VanBurgel, 94, of Evart, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Spectrum Health Rehab and Nursing Center - Reed City.

VanBurgel was born on May 15, 1921, to John and Barbara (Rittmeyer) Seelman, in Conklin. She married William VanBurgel on June 26, 1946. They moved to Evart in 1954, where they owned Van’s Chevrolet. During her life, she worked for Michigan Bell, Adelines, Gardner Denver and Dr. Kane’s Dental Office. She was a charter member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a Cub Scout den mother, belonged to the Reed City Hospital Guild, Evart Professional Women’s Club and Reed City VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family, family reunions, many friends and visits to her home.

Dorothy is survived by sons, William (Gloria) VanBurgel, of Evart, and David VanBurgel (Kathy Scott), of Mercer, Maine; daughter, Barbara J. VanBurgel, of Mercer, Maine; granddaughter, Kariann VanBurgel; and great-granddaughter, Esperanza.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents; brothers, Carl, William, Fred and Donald; sister, Freida; and granddaughter, Barbara Lynn.

We would like to thank the staff at Spectrum Health and Rehab Reed City for the excellent care and kind treatment our mother received in her last two and a half years.

Memorial services for Dorothy Ruth VanBurgel will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Evart. Visitations from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church will precede the service.
