DEARBORN — Dorothy M. Sandell, resident of Henry Ford Retirement Village in Dearborn, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland M. Sandell, in 2004 and her beloved one and only sister, Ellen A. Basista, in 2015.

She is the mother of Douglas (Cindy) Sandell, of Franklin, Tenn., and Debra (Gary) Chartraw, of Cornelius, N.C.; loving grandmother of Katie Sandell, Joseph Sandell, Jeffrey Chartraw and Zachary Chartraw. She is survived by dear brother-in-law, Jerome Basista, dear aunt of Jeffrey (Linda) Basista, John (Deborah) Basista and other nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was born to Earl and Selma Pierson in Evart in 1928, where she was raised and graduated from high school. She graduated from Central Michigan University's secretarial school. She worked in Grand Rapids. A longtime resident of Arlington Heights, Ill., Dorothy was an avid gardener and bridge player. In addition, she worked as an executive secretary for Kraft foods.

Cremation has taken place. Dorothy will be buried at Forest Hill Cemetery with her family in Evart.
