Dorothy Alice Upp
OKEMOS — Dorothy Alice Upp passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, in Okemos. She was 104.
She was born on Oct. 26, 1910, in Muskegon Heights, to Ralph and Pearl (Whitney) Wilson, was raised in Reed City, and was a 1929 graduate of Reed City High School. On Feb. 24, 1929, she was married in Angola, Ind. to Arlin Upp, who passed away in 1969.
Together with her husband Arlin, the family owned and operated a slaughterhouse in Reed City, where she was employed as a bookkeeper. She also worked as an Avon representative for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Evangelical Church and later was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Reed City, where she held several positions throughout her life. Dorothy was active in her community as a member of several clubs and organizations. She was a charter member of the Business Women’s Club, Garden Club, Attic Diggers and the Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed decorating the church for holidays and special services which was always a special joy to her.
She is survived by her son, Richard Arlin (Margee) Upp, of Mason; daughter, Patricia Ann Chipman, of Jackson; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Pearl Wilson; husband, Arlin Upp; sister, Dolores Harrington; and son-in-law, Herbert Chipman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Reed City with Rev. Kathy Cadarette officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Reed City. Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at the Pruitt-Livingston Funeral Home in Reed City. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church.
