Donna Marie McMillen

Donna Marie (Flachs) McMillen, passed away from complications of dementia, Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Curry House, near Cadillac. She was 84.

Donna was born July 28, 1928, in Lansing to Frank and Kathryn (Stadtfield) Doerr. She graduated at age 16 from Remus High School in 1945. Donna married Francis James Flachs in 1949 and he preceded her in death April 1, 1967. She then married Gary McMillen on February 12, 1970 in Argos, Indiana. Donna owned and operated Flachs Party Store in Evart from 1965 to 1999. Donna and Gary spent their winters in Arizona the last 34 years. Donna was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a founding member of Evart Community Business Women, member of the Evart Chamber of Commerce, member of the Reed City Hospital Guild, and a member of the Reed City VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband Gary McMillen of Evart; five daughters, June Mitchell of Evart, Margaret (Dave) Westmaas of Marion, Jazanne McMillen of Gallatin Gateway, Montana, Deb (Dennis) Bryant of Evart, Cheryl (Connie) McMillen of Falls Church, Virginia; four sons, Bill (Mel) Flachs of Evart, Chuck (Karen) Flachs of Evart, Mitchell (Lisa) McMillen of New Milford, Connecticut, Jonathon (Cathy) McMillen of Huntsville, Alabama; daughter-in-law Lisa McMillen of Rochester, Indiana; 22 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; five sisters, Shirley (Lawrence) Anderson of Blanchard, Joanne Myers of Grand Ledge, Betty (Bill) Noud of Thermopolis, Wyoming, Karen (Joe) Vaske of Montevideo, Minnesota, Sharon (Robert) Mills of Thermopolis, Wyoming; two brothers, Mike (Barb) Doerr of St. Johns, MI, G.P. (Tana) Doerr of Elko, Nevada; and brother-in-law Bill (Pat) McMillen of Rochester, Indiana.

Her parents, husband Francis James Flachs, daughter Julie Paisley, son Gregory McMillen, son-in-law James Mitchell, and two brothers, Max and Russell Doerr preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Donna Marie McMillen are 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Evart with Father Joe Fix officiating. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 29, at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Remus at 2:30 p.m. April 30, following the funeral luncheon.
