Denise Lynn Whaling

REED CITY — Denise Lynn Whaling, 55, of Reed City, passed away on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at her residence.

She was born on April 27, 1958, in Flint, to Robert and Joyce (Crowell) Barrett and was raised in Flint. She was a 1976 graduate of Hamady High School and was employed with the AC Delco Spark Plug division of General Motors, working first in Flint and later in Grand Rapids until her retirement in 2009.

On Dec. 1, 1990, she was married in Reed City to Bill Whaling. She attended Ferris State University and in 2010 earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Denise enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Whaling, of Reed City; children, Taylor and Hunter Whaling, of Reed City; parents, Robert and Joyce (Crowell) Barrett, of Cadillac; sister, Deborah (David) Stark, of Harrison Township; father-in-law, Walter Whaling, of Reed City; sisters-in-law, Denna (Robert) Light, of LeRoy, Debra Addington, of Ionia, Davee (Owen) Pullen, of Washington, Dedra (Craig) Burke, of Petoskey, Deane (Bill) Lange, of Oregon, and Darra (Steve) Haase, of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Pat (Helen) Whaling.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at the St. Philip-Neri Catholic Church in Reed City, with the Rev. Father Loc Trinh officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Pine River Equestrian Team. Visitation with the family will be from noon until time of service on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at the church.
