EVART — David (Dave/DJ) John Sly, 56, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017.

Dave was a graduate from Michigan Center High School. After he finished high school, he served honorably in the U.S. Air National Guard. He then went on to join the police academy in Jackson, where he would follow his passion of becoming a police officer. Serving his community was very important to Dave, which led to him becoming an emergency medical technician as well as a respectable firefighter, mainly in the Evart area, where he retired as a detective sergeant.

Dave is survived by his wife, Charlotte; son, Holden; stepdaughters, April, Alysha and Amelia; five grandsons; and siblings, Danny, Robin, Renee and Don.

He was preceded in death by parents, David Sly and Shirley Wilcox.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at the Corey Funeral Home, in Evart.

Friends may meet with family starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Dave Sly or a cause of your choice.
