David Andrew Niemitalo, 69, of Chase, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his residence.

He was born on June 2, 1943, in Grand Haven, to Eino Niemitalo and Helen Kamppinen. He was a 1961 graduate of Reed City High School. From 1962 to 1966, he served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Air Force.

On Aug. 12, 1967, he was married to Norma Lee Decator in Reed City. He was employed for 33 years with Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline, which later became A&R Pipeline, and retired in 2001.

On Nov. 5, 1983, he was married to Carol Ruth Ann Reed, who passed away in 1994. He was a longtime member of the Reed City Moose Lodge No. 705 and was an avid softball player as a member of the Osceola Inn men’s softball team. David was an avid reader of books and news and enjoyed travelling the back roads and watching wildlife.

He is survived by his daughters, Missy (Jeff) Niemitalo-Sape, of Fraser, Kerri (Jason) Gauthier, of Timberlake, N.C., Shana (James) Pawlowski, of Plainfield, Ind., and Alana (Matt) Plotnikiewicz, of Cadillac; his brother, Gerald (Donna) Niemitalo, of Kaleva; his sister, Judy (James) Battle, of Paris; grandchildren, Mia, Kylie, Marcus (Kate), Christian, Jacob, Megan, James, Teddy, Hailey, Anya, Ellie, Reed and Izzy; great-grandchild, Austin; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Pruitt-Livingston Funeral Home in Reed City, with the Rev. Dawn Pooley officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kaleva. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the funeral home.
