REED CITY — Darold (Dean) Steig, 77, of Reed City, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 5, 2016.

He was born on July 6, 1938, to Herald and Mary (Rowley) Steig. Dean started driving trucks when he was just 17 years old. He had driven for 60 years, and loved every minute of it. Trucking was his passion, life and his livelihood. He loved seeing all the different states and scenery. Also, he enjoyed going to a restaurant or truck stop for some coffee, and nine times out of 10 there was always someone he knew from trucking. He loved sitting there and shooting the breeze with whomever, swapping trucking stories, and Lord knows, he had thousands of them.

He enjoyed having friends and family over, especially his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He was quick to tell stories about his younger years, and oh boy could he tell you one heck of a story. He could definitely brighten up a room for sure.

Dean is survived by his sister, Darlene Norris; his children; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and also by his furry pal, Shadow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herald and Mary (Rowley) Steig; his brothers, Harold and Ted; and his sister, Vivian.

Per Dean’s request, no memorial services will be held.

We would like to say a special thanks to Hospice of Michigan in Big Rapids and ask that any donations be sent there. Arrangements were entrusted to the McDowell Funeral Home.
