Clowning around

REED CITY – Patients in the Rehab and Nursing Center at Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital were visited by a local celebrity Saturday.

Dynamite the Clown came to the center, gave out balloon animals and told jokes to patients.

“As I get older I’ve noticed it’s harder to bend down,” Dynamite said. “I try to make sure I have three things to do before I bend down, so I don’t waste time.”

Patients laughed at Dynamite’s performance and received balloon giraffes, poodles and flowers from the local funny man.

The event was organized by high school volunteer Miranda Burch, who met Dynamite through her job as a waitress at Seven Slot Grille in Reed City.

“I asked him to come and he said he would do it for free,” Burch said. “I know (the patients) like to have fun.”

Burch wants to attend college to be a nurse and said she loves volunteering with the Rehab and Nursing Center patients at the hospital.

The Rehab and Nursing Center is a long-term care facility with the capacity for 50 patients. The center continually institutes initiatives and programs to enhance the quality of life for patients, including dogs and cats in the facility at all times and inviting entertainment like Dynamite the Clown.
