Charles ‘Peck’ Fredrick Wein
HERSEY — Charles “Peck” Fredrick Wein, of Hersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital after a yearlong battle with MDS.
He was born on May 7, 1954, in Reed City, to Melvin and Martha (Ellis) Wein. He was a 1972 graduate of Reed City High School. He was employed for more than 40 years by Jerry and Lynn Mitchell family, the owner of Cedar Grove Farm near Hersey. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, old tractors and farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin “Pee-Wee” and Martha Wein; sister, Sandy Westfahl; and his uncle, George “Unk” Wein.
Charlie is survived by his brother, James “Doc” Wein; sisters, Rosalee (Jim) Donley and Melva (Roger) King; and brother-in-law, Ken Westfahl. He will be greatly missed by his son, Matt (Jennifer) Wein; and daughter, Susan (Matt) Stelter. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Mackenzie, Bryce and Madison Wein, and Ethan, Eli and Elena Stelter; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at the Pruitt-Livingston Funeral Home in Reed City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Hersey, followed by a tractor procession to the Hersey Village Cemetery for committal services and burial. This will be a come as you are, casual event. Immediately following burial, there will be a celebration of life luncheon at the Eagle’s Nest Hall located at Eagle Village in Hersey.
