Betty Mae Mattson

Betty Mae Mattson, 90, of Big Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Altercare of Big Rapids.

She was born on Feb. 9, 1922, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Helen (Shipman) Murray. Betty Mae made her home in Grand Rapids and Pierson. She later moved to Hersey with her husband, Walter Mattson, for 14 years, and together they were members of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Reed City. Betty Mae sang in the church choir, was a member of the church group, Circle Three, and was very active in TOPS and KOPS program, winning many awards. For the last 15 years Betty Mae resided in Big Rapids.

She is survived by her son, Bob (Barb) Woodward, of Gowen; four step sons, Chuck (Paula) Mattson, of Park Forest, Ill., Brian (Dee) Mattson, of Gwinn, Steve (Brenda) Mattson, of Norton Shores, and Stan (Pennie) Mattson, of Tustin; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Mattson, on March 2, 2012; her sister, Beulah; and her parents.

Memorial contributions in Betty Mae’s name may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, located at 22275 Chippewa Road, Reed City, MI 49677.
