SYLVAN TWP. — Betty Lou Schooley, 81, of Sylvan Township near Evart, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2015, at the Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

Betty Lou was born on March 23, 1934, in Gaylord, to Nelson and Marion (Alice) Rodgers. She graduated from Marion High School and was valedictorian of the Class of 1952. Betty married Myles I. Schooley Jr. at the Sylvan United Methodist Church on June 7, 1952, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 2014. She worked as the Sylvan Township Assessor for many years as well as being a farmer’s wife and homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol (David) Berghoff, of Evart, and Dawn Schooley, of Fremont; three sons, John Schooley, of Evart, Jim (Billie Jean Patton) Schooley, of Evart, and Jack (Kimmy) Schooley, of Evart; sisters-in-law, Sarah Blackledge and Nancy (David) Dennis, both of Evart; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Wayne (Sharon) Rodgers, of Evart, and Ken (Peg) Rodgers, of Haslett.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Myles I. Schooley Jr.; two infant children, Cheryl and Leroy; two sisters; and one brother.

Funeral services for Betty Lou Schooley are at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart. Friends may meet with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the funeral home. Betty Lou will be interred next to her husband in Sylvan Township Cemetery.
