MIDLAND — Bernice Irene Bragg, of Midland, and formerly of Evart, died on Friday, March 6, 2015, at the home of her son in Sanford surrounded by her family.

Bernice was born on April 4, 1921, in LeRoy, and spent most of her life in the Evart area. She was the oldest of four children born to the late Elmer and Clara (Faist) Bond. After graduating from Evart High School, she married Norbert S. Bragg on July 26, 1939. They moved to Pontiac for a short time, and then moved back to the Evart area to take over the family farm when Norbert’s father became ill. Bernice worked for Evart Products and later the Evart Bank, retiring in 1980. After her husband’s death on Aug. 3, 1980, Bernice eventually sold the farm and moved into Evart. At the age of 93 she moved into Independence Village of Midland, and just recently StoryPoint Assisted Living.

Bernice was a member of Sears United Methodist Church and its treasurer for many years. She could always be counted on to drive friends to church or appointments and help out whenever needed. She was a thoughtful and kind person with a generous spirit. Her greatest joys in life were her family, friends and church. She was loved by all who knew her.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Gala Kolmsee, of Kiev, Ukraine, Bruce (Ivonne), of East Lansing and Michael (Helen), of Sanford; her grandchildren, Randel (Susanne) Barwick, Jason (Anne) Barwick, Nicole (Bill) Gryzenia, Stephanie (Brian) McKay, Michelle (Brad) Beers and Rebecca (Sten) Vaara; and her 14 great-grandchildren, Sidney, Ella and Hope Barwick, Sofia, Gabriella and Andrew Gryzenia, Georgia and Ruby McKay, Morgan, Jordan and Kyle Beers, Elena, Madeline and Rowen Vaara. She is survived by her two brothers, Norman and Frederick; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Patricia; and her brother, Melvin.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Corey Funeral Home in Evart, with Pastor Joe Beavan officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015, and an hour prior to services on Saturday.

Interment will be at the Hersey Village Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sears United Methodist Church.
