Archie L. McLachlan

EVART — Archie L. McLachlan, 88, of Evart, passed away on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at his home.

Archie was born on May 18, 1926, in Evart, to Russell and Rhoda (Blanchard) McLachlan. Archie was raised on a farm south of Evart, where he stayed and farmed most of his working years. He was a Holstein dairy farmer and also raised many fields of potatoes. Archie married Marilyn on Dec. 8, 1978, in Roseville. He retired in 1985. He moved from the farm to a home on Negaunee Lake for a few years.

After spending winters in Florida for some years, he moved to Fort Myers, Fla., where he lived for 30 years.

Most recently, he moved back home to Evart for the past two years. Archie was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of VFW Post No. 7979 in Evart. He was very active in his community. He was a member of the Farm Bureau for 65 years. Archie served on the Evart School Board for many years and was an Osceola County Commissioner for several years.

Archie is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marilyn McLachlan, of Evart; his children, Chris Comer, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Rosie (Mike) McKinstry, of Evart, Cal (Deb) McLachlan, of Brighton, Colo., Pam (Winston) Cowans, of Warren, and Deanna (Dave) Shrum, of Clawson; grandchildren, Lisa, Zach, Jake, Kim, Amy, Erin, Abbey, and Alex; great-grandchildren, Nate, Ian, Morgan, Calvin, Baily, Jackson, and Matthew; his step-children, Kathy (David) VanBurgel, of Norridgewok, Maine, Karla (Richard) Anderson, of Evart, and Alan (Laurianne) Scott, of Ketchikan, Alaska; step-grandchildren, Holly, Sarah, Joseph, Maria, Amanda, and Emily; 13 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Mae Williams, of Hersey, and Jane (Eldon) Kneisel, of Flint.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Burton Scott Jr.; sisters, Shirley, Rhoda, Barb, Mary, Jean, Joan, and Louise; and brothers, Elmer, John, and Paul.

Funeral services for Archie L. McLachlan are at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart, with Pastor Mark Bullock officiating. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Evart. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
