EVART – It’s another Johnson displaying his skills on the Evart baseball diamond this summer.

Lucas Johnson is playing for his dad, Josh, as did his two older brothers Pierce and Garrett Johnson. He’s the last of the Johnsons. He will be a sophomore but did play on the varsity as a freshman.

“We had a young team last year,” Johnson said after a recent summer game. “We really had to use our freshmen a lot.”

Johnson was a catcher and shortstop. He indicated catching was his best position. He takes pride in his arm but indicated his blocking skills have been strong. This summer, to prepare for 2023, he’s working on his throw downs to second base.

He also hopes to do more pitching for the Wildcats next spring.

“I need to be more accurate and use different pitches,” he said.

Johnson said his fastball has been his best pitch.

“I struggled with my hitting early on, then I switched up on bats and got my timing down a little better and hit a little better,” he said.

“We just want to get everyone committed and try to build a picture in my mind for next season,”  coach Josh Johnson said.

Lucas Johnson is also in football and basketball and gives baseball an edge as his favorite.

“I’ve been in the weight room a lot this summer and went to some open gyms in basketball,” Johnson said.
