CADILLAC — Alda M. Ransom, 83, of Cadillac, formerly of Evart, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Green Acres Retirement Living.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1930, in Dighton, to Arthur and Fern (Williams) Gunnett. Alda was married to Willard Arnold Ransom on Oct. 18, 1947. Alda worked at Evart Products for more than 30 years. She lived 10 miles north of Evart on a 160-acre dairy farm. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping, deer hunting, going to the U.P. and picking up rocks (agates) while walking on the shoreline of Lake Superior. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Alda is survived by her daughters, Carol (Nelson) Torrey, of Marion, and Connie (Reg) Hulliberger, of Evart; sons, Larry (Jan) Ransom, of Reed City, Jim (Jan) Ransom, of Cadillac, and Donald (Brenda) Ransom, of Sault Ste. Marie; brother, Donald (Shirley) Gunnett, of Grand Rapids; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Arnold Ransom; father, Arthur Gunnett; mother, Fern Gunnett; sister, Mabel Crowe; and brother, L.D. Gunnett.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at the Fosnaught-Holdship Funeral Home. Officiating will be Brenda Ransom and Pastor John Proctor. Interment will be at the Maple Valley Cemetery in Hartwick Township. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at the funeral home.
