EVART - Halloween is just around the corner, and Evart's Haunted Park is set to make children, teens and adults feel the fear a week early. The spooky scene will be set for attendees from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. For a low fee, individuals will travel through Riverside East for about 20 minutes, encountering actors and horror scenes to make those of all fear thresholds scream. Thirty to 40 volunteers help create the atmosphere hosted by the Evart Area Chamber of Commerce. "It has been very successful," said chamber member Eric Schmidt. "We have about 300 people walk through. This year we expect a lot more, I would say up to 500. What's fun is the adrenaline rush from walking around and never knowing what's around the corner. Actors do a great job playing their roles." All proceeds from Evart's Haunted Park will be fed back into the community, with half going to the Evart Area Chamber of Commerce and half going to Evart Parks and Recreation. This year the event will feature food vendor Cosmic Kitchen. Admission into the Haunted Park is a low fee and children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Those who want to volunteer for the event, contact Eric Schmidt at (231) 679-2606.
