OSCEOLA COUNTY — It’s auction time once again. The Osceola County Community Foundation planning team is already well into the planning stage for an event that has become a tradition in the county — both as a social happening and an important fund-raiser for Foundation activities in support of the community. The OCCF Dinner and Auction on May 5 is actually the only active fund-raiser held by the Foundation. And it’s a lot of fun for all involved. A lion’s share of funds collected by the Foundation each year come through private donations. Money raised at the annual auction not only bolsters those funds, but also is the main source of funding for covering OCCF’s administrative expenses. The auction is a way for people to not only donate but also have a great meal and a fine time of fellowship and fun. This year, for the second year running, the OCCF Dinner and Auction will be held in the Community Building at the Osceola 4-H FFA Fairgrounds. A social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner to follow and the live auction wrapping up the evening’s festivities. Dinner will be provided by Pere Marquette Catering in Reed City. “Last year we raised over $20,000 at the auction,” reported Foundation assets committee facilitator Larry Emig. “Things worked out very well at the Fairgrounds and we expect to have a great time again this year. “We’ve been meeting regularly to make sure everything is well organized and we have a great list of items up for bid.” Handling the auctioneering duties once again this year will be Andy Lattimore. During the auction, items ranging from flower arrangements to an exciting week stay at a private home on the Caribbean island St. Martin will be on the ticket. There also will be golf outing packages and weekend stays at resorts and hotels around the state on the block. “We have a wide range of exciting offerings including sporting event tickets and a huge array of silent auction items as well,” reported Emig. “We also would be more than happy to receive more auctionable items. If anyone has something that could be used to raise even more funds for the Foundation I would be more than happy to talk with them. “All the money raised goes into the Foundation general fund. Every penny raised stays in Osceola County in support of the many programs the Foundation has supported and will support in the future.” Emig suggested people should consider picking up their tickets for the dinner-auction early. “Whether individuals, couples, or businesses buying blocks of tickets, those planning on attending had better get tickets bought soon,” he said. Tickets for the Foundation’s dinner-auction can be purchased at Lake Osceola State Bank, Citizens Bank, and Holihan’s Drug Store in Evart. “If anyone has a problem getting hold of tickets they can call me at 832-4880,” said Emig.
