LEROY\u00a0\u2014 A non-homestead millage renewal proposal will be on the August ballot for Pine River Area Schools. The district's board of education approved the call for a special election at a meeting on April 18. According to Superintendent Matthew Lukshaitis, the proposal, required by the state, seeks to collect 18 mills from business, industry, commercial, rental and some agricultural properties. Taxes will not increase for homeowners, he said. The non-homestead proposal is necessary for the district to capture per-pupil funding from the state. In other business, Aaron Schab, athletic director for Pine River Area Schools, was hired by the board to fulfill a part-time Title 1 position. Schaub previously taught the wellness class, which recently became physical education for sixth- and seventh-graders. Now, teacher Ross Brize will take over the phys ed class.
