EVART — One local business that has been in Osceola County for almost 40 years soon will have a location in downtown Evart and further east on U.S. 10. Recently, M&J Furniture owner Michael "Grizz" Hylton Sr. was faced with a decision to either move or see the business close, as his business partner, Keith Halifax, was set to retire. Due to the large amount of support from locals to keep the store running, he chose to make customers happy and press on with a move. "We want to serve people better," Hylton said. "We also want to bring business back into downtown Evart. The downtown store will be located at 215 N. Main, in a building owned by Gary Kaberle since the 1920s, which was once Smith's Sales. Hylton said by placing a furniture store back into a building that used to sell furniture is a bit like returning the structure to its roots. The sister store, at 6181 U.S. 10, will offer the U-HAUL service and inventory that cannot be stocked downtown. The move is expected to be complete at both locations by Friday, Oct. 10, and the business still will offer layaway and delivery. Although Hylton is looking forward to the change and the new start, the move is bittersweet. "It's sad because I've been in this store for so many years," Hylton said. "There are many memories in here." For more about M&J Furniture, visit mandjfurniture.com.
