REED CITY\u00a0- With the help of golf lovers or those who simply enjoy being out on the green, Osceola County Habitat for Humanity can continue to provide assistance and homes to residents in need. The 13th annual Habitat Gold Outing will take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, at Spring Valley Golf Course located on U.S. 10. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. "I'm really looking forward to seeing everybody come together and having a good time for a wonderful cause," said Habitat for Humanity board member and selection committee chair Mary Lou Proefrock. "It's very satisfying." The cost to participate is $240 per team, which includes a golf cart, door prizes, gift bags, lunch, awards and more. Local businesses and individuals are welcome to become sponsors of teams or tee signs, and also can donate prizes for a raffle. Proceeds from the event will continue to help fund building costs. Currently, the organization is building its 11th house for a single mom with five sons. "The need is there," Proefrock said. "We have tons of people calling us and asking if we can build them a home. We've been building houses on lots that have been donated to us." As an incentive for teams to play their best while having fun, a grand prize of 16 rounds of golf at local courses will be awarded to the team with the lowest score. In addition, a hole-in-one contest is being offered, with the chance of winning $10,000. Local sponsors from around the county came together in support of the event. "It's great," Proefrock said. "We are all volunteers, so we have no paid staff, no office. Times are tough for everyone, so we really appreciate the support we're getting in this endeavor."
