EVART - Early Christmas shoppers and arts, crafts and antique lovers have an opportunity this weekend to admire the creations of talented artists and crafters and displays of antique dealers from all parts of Michigan. The fourth annual Osceola County Fairground Flea Market and Craft Show takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Osceola County 4-H FFA Fairgrounds community building in Evart. Last year the popular event, sponsored by the Osceola League for Arts and Humanities, attracted nearly 400 shoppers who browsed through the spacious hall filled with colorful and intriguing exhibits offering something for everyone. Items available include jewelry, quilts, greeting cards, seasonal and holiday decor, paintings, soaps and candles, pottery, stained glass, needlework, crocheted and knitted items and ceramics along with antiques and collectibles. A new feature for this year will be author's row - local authors who display, sell and sign their books ranging from novels, children's books, memoirs, self-help and travel. A highlight of the event will be a repeat of the league Antiques Roadshow. For a small fee, Robert Anderson, antiques connoisseur and auctioneer from Hersey, will appraise heirlooms and keepsakes and reveal the provenance and value of cherished possessions including furniture, paintings, pottery, rare books and other treasures. Lunch and beverages are available on-site. "We're really happy to announce that admission to the show is free this year, and parking is free," said league member Mary Brininstool. "In previous years we've charged $1 per person to come to the fair, but it's now free and open to the public." Brininstool is hoping to bring an even larger crowd to the fair this year. "We've got a group of outstanding vendors lined up and an amazing variety of items for sale. Everyone will have a great time going from booth to booth and getting to know our artists and dealers," she said. The Osceola League for Arts and Humanities and its studio and gift shop are located at 207 N. Main St. in Evart.
