REED CITY - Children and their families are invited to get into the Christmas spirit and don their garland and tinsel for this year's Reed City Evergreen Festival, which will take place on Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30. This year's theme is "Christmas Toys Bring Christmas Joys" and the event is sure to bring happiness to all who attend. "It kicks off the holiday season," said Reed City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Suzie Williams. "It brings everyone together after Thanksgiving." The parade will begin at 1 p.m. and travel through the city down Upton Avenue, ending at the depot. Williams said all are welcome to join the parade and have a chance to win cash prizes for best parade entries. For an entry form, visit reedcity.org or call (231) 832-5431. Following the parade, children will be welcomed into the Reed City Depot, which will be decorated inside like a gingerbread house, to frost gingerbread cookies. Outside, a warm fire will help warm things up as elves and live reindeer help spread holiday cheer. Santa and Mrs. Claus also will be available for visits and photographs. "The kids love it," Williams said. "It's a fun afternoon and it's a family affair." In addition, an annual arts and crafts show will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at Reed City High School. More than 100 booths are expected to offer items including home goods, food, knitted items and more for attendees to browse. Concessions also will be available. The Evergreen Festival will take place no matter the weather, Williams said.
