EVART — The Evart Masonic Lodge No. 230, located at 301 S. Main St., in Evart, will be the place to get your buck measured for a big buck contest on opening day of firearm deer season, Tuesday, Nov. 15. The contest is organized by the Masonic Lodge and the Evart Chamber of commerce. According to Bill Wilder, the Evart Chamber of Commerce and the Masonic Lodge are having the contest from daylight until 4 to 5 p.m., depending on the number of bucks. “From what I’ve seen, it looks like it’s going to be a good year for hunters,” he said. “There is no buck pole, but hunters can bring them in, we’ll measure and take photos.” “The first couple of people to bring in bucks are up for some gift certificates from Jay’s Sporting Goods,” he said. “We’ll probably have about 12 $25 gift certificates.” The first hunter with a buck to arrive on opening day will receive a $100 gift certificate. The largest buck will receive a $200 gift certificate, second place, $100 gift certificate and $50 for third place.” Donuts and coffee will be available in the morning and soup and coffee in the afternoon, Wilder said. The contest has been going for several years, formerly sponsored by the Evart Review newspaper. When the newspaper ceased operation, the Masonic Lodge took over running the contest, Wilder said.
