EVART\u00a0\u2014 An Alma man was charged Friday with sexually assaulting a girl in his family. Timothy Brown, 39, was charged with one count of third-degree criminal sexual assault.\u00a0The victim in the case is a resident of the Evart and disclosed a sexual relationship with Brown at a doctor\u2019s appointment. The sexual activity was said to have occurred in both Osceola and Gratiot counties. Michigan State Police troopers from the Mount Pleasant post\u00a0interviewed the victim and obtained other evidence to corroborate the likelihood of the alleged sexual relationship. If he is convicted, this would be Brown\u2019s second criminal sexual conduct offense. He\u00a0was convicted in 1996 in Ingham County of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim to whom he was related, according to the Michigan Sex Offender Registry. He was released from prison in 2010, but part of his sentence includes being actively listed on the registry for his lifetime. The Osceola County Prosecutor\u2019s Office issued a warrant for Brown on Thursday, charging him with third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Brown was arrested by troopers on his\u00a0way to meet with the victim. Troopers will be conducting further investigation and additional charges in Gratiot County are anticipated. Brown remains in Osceola County Jail on a $750,00 surety bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Aug 8 in Osceola County\u2019s 77th District Court.
