RICHMOND TOWNSHIP - Two men from Hersey are listed in critical condition after a single vehicle crash Saturday morning left them with life-threatening injuries. About 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, first responders with the Osceola County Sheriff's Office and Reed City Fire Department responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Old U.S. 131 between in 2 and 3 Mile roads in Richmond Township, according to news releases by both agencies. Upon arrive, units found a vehicle on fire with extensive damage. Personnel extinguished the flames, and Reed City Fire Recue used the Jaws of Life to remove the trapped driver and passenger. The driver, a 31-year-old Hersey man, and the passenger, a 29-year-old Hersey man, were transported by EMS to Reed City Spectrum Hospital for life threatening injuries. Both were transferred to Grand Rapids Spectrum Hospital and listed in critical condition. Old U.S. 131 was closed down for about five to six hours while the Michigan State Police investigated. Witnesses who called 911 reported that the vehicle had rolled several times, sliding off the roadway and coming to rest in a ditch, prior to catching on fire, sheriff's office's news release stated. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, however, speed and alcohol are believed to be factors. Responding agencies include Osceola County Sheriffs Office, Reed City Fire and Rescue, Big Rapids Fire Department, Meceola Central Dispatch and Osceola County EMS.
