REED CITY — Members of the Solid Rock Children's Choir and the Velocity Youth are gearing up to perform a Christmas musical that features the message of Christ's birth mixed with humor and fun.

"A Rockin', Royal Christmas with the King," written by Celest and David Clydesdale, will be presented at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Reed City Church of the Nazarene, 5300 200th Ave. The performance, which takes place during the church's regular Sunday service, is free to attend.

The show features nearly 50 participants ranging from preschool through college age, who have been rehearsing since October to make the performance perfect.

"It's really coming together well," said program director Pat Osborne. "I'm very pleased with how the kids are doing."

The musical depicts a tale concerning King Herod and the three magi who traveled to find Christ in a manger. It asks, "In the few years following the birth of Jesus, what if Herod hired a sleuth to find the magi who failed to return to him?" The story relates to people who still search to learn who Christ really is.

Osborne hopes members of the church and visitors attend the performance to support the youth and enjoy an atypical Christmas story.

"I love the message of the play and its many different musical aspects," she added. "I'm hoping we'll have a lot of fun with it and that God's message will come through."
