Writers workshop planned for Cadillac
CADILLAC — Calling all writers and aspiring writers.
You are invited to learn the answers to many of your manuscript editing questions at a workshop sponsored by Write to Publish, a group of writers from Cadillac, Tustin, Marion and other area communities.
Join us Saturday, Feb. 11 in the Cadillac Wexford Public Library conference room from 1 to 4 p.m. Advance registration is not required; there is no admission charge.
The featured speaker is professional editor and writer Heather Shaw from Traverse City.
In her presentation, “Manuscript Editing for Today’s Writer,” Shaw will address three levels of editing—developmental, line and copy editing.
She will explain the importance, in today’s publishing climate, of submitting a polished, edited manuscript. The priority for editors is to bring books to the marketplace with a minimum of delay. Their goal is to find and sell books, not nurture talent through a lengthy in-house editing process. Learn why this reality is particularly true for fiction writers.
Shaw has extensive professional experience as an editor, including research and editing for two New York Times best sellers by Doug Stanton. She has also served as editor-in-chief of ForeWord and Spirituality & Health magazine.
Also on the program is Randy Johnston from Marion who will speak on editing guidelines for newspaper articles and press releases.
If you’re a published writer, a novice or simply dreaming about writing a book—whether fiction, nonfiction, memoir, poetry or other genre, mark your calendar now.
Invite all your writer friends. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into the art and science of editing at an interesting, informative and practical workshop.
