EVART — It’s cold.

Even though the winter of 2011-12 started out relatively mild, more typical Michigan winter weather has kicked in with a vengeance and some folks are already getting a touch of “Cabin Fever.”

Members of the General Federation of Women’s Club - Evart Women’s Club have the cure.

The group are hosting their Fourth Annual Sweethearts Dance and expect not only a great turnout as in years past, but a lot of fun and fellowship on a potentially blustery night as well.

The Sweethearts Dance will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, from 7-10 p.m. in the Community Hall at the Osceola 4H FFA Fairgrounds.

“We are expecting a lot of fun,” reported Terese Whitten, one of the organizing committee’s enthusiastic planners.

“Of course our focus is on getting folks out to dance the evening away, but there will be a lot of other things going on as well.”

Planned for the evening is the crowning of Miss Evart who will have been selected by an exacting panel of judges the evening before — Friday, Feb. 10.

“We also will be hosting the crowning the Prince and Princess,” noted Whitten.

“There are dance demonstrations by members of the Osceola League of Art and the Humanities planned as well.

“Everyone should have a lot of fun.”

Whitten emphasized that participation in the annual Sweetheart Dance is not limited to residents of the Evart area.

“We’re hoping folks from neighboring communities, all around the county, and even further afield will join us for a great evening of fun — away from home,” she said.

“There will be light refreshments, basket raffles, door prizes, and good times for everybody.

“We really encourage folks to get out of the house and join neighbors and friends for an evening of good, ol’ fashion community fun.”
