Ware, Wickens honored as top Pine River students

LEROY – As the next few weeks will mark the end of the school career for many students, Pine River High School honors two seniors as the top students in the class of 2012.

Valedictorian

Kaitlyn Ware was selected as the 2012 Pine River High School valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA.

Ware, 18, is the daughter of Lawrence and Ines Ware. She spent the majority of her high school career focusing on band, with involvment in the school’s marching, concert, pep and jazz bands.

She also was involved in choir, yearbook, Genesis Youth Group and National Honor Society.

She spent a fair amount of time volunteering and said some of her favorite memories came from times when she was able to help out at local elementary schools.

In the fall she plans to attend Adrian College to pursue a music performance degree on the clarinet.

“I’m excited to move forward into the next phase of my life and thankful for all the people and lessons God has placed in my life,” Ware said in her written biography. “My plans may not always turn out the exact way I foresee them, but I know with God on my side my life will amount to something greater than myself.”

Salutatorian

Beth Wickens will be the 2012 Pine River High School salutatorian with a 3.99 GPA.

Wickens is the daughter of Marshall and Cathy Wickens. She was involved with many things during her time in high school, including marching band, concert band, jazz band, Destination Imagination, varsity track and field, the National Honor Society, choir and Genesis Youth Group. She has been a section leader in the school’s band for the low brass and woodwinds for the last two school years. In the fall, Wickens plans to attend Alma College and pursue a degree in a math- or science-related field.
