MECOSTA, OSCEOLA COUNTIES — Those interested in spending the day making bids and giving back are invited to the Mecosta-Osceola United Way's 29th annual auction Thursday, Oct. 24.

Taking place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Big Rapids Holiday Inn, money made from the event will go toward United Way's campaign to support local agencies and charities, including American Red Cross, Mecosta Youth Center, Manna Pantry and more.

"My favorite part of United Way and its mission is it helps the most vulnerable people in our communities, which are many times children and seniors," Mecosta-Osceola United Way Executive Director Betty Seelye said.

With a goal of raising $20,000, the free auction will provide complementary hors d'oeuvres, with a silent auction beginning at 6:30 p.m., and a live auction at 7:45 p.m., hosted by Phil Currie.

"We have more than 100 items," Seelye said.

Some items include an overnight stay at the Grand Hotel, fly-fishing on the Pere Marquette river, winery tours, cooking lessons and much more.

"Come and have a good time. There's something for everyone," Seelye said.
