Two killed, one injured in Highland Township accident

HIGHLAND TWP.  — Two people were killed in a three-vehicle accident on Monday that closed M-115 in Highland Township for more than three hours.

According to a news release from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to assist Osceola County EMS, Marion Fire Department and Tustin Fire Department with the accident at approximately 8:05 a.m.

Witness accounts and police investigation indicate a Nissan passenger vehicle heading southeast on M-115 crossed the centerline, striking an oncoming northwest GMC pickup. After the collision with the Nissan, the GMC struck a Volkswagon.

The driver of the Nissan, an unidentified male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC, a 26-year-old Bay City man, was transported by ambulance, but later died from his injuries at Munson Hospital Cadillac. The driver of the Volkswagon, a 46-year-old Cadillac woman, received minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. Names are being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin. M-115 was closed from approximately 8:10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Traffic was re-routed from M-115 to 22 Mile Road and 110th Avenue.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation and with traffic control by the Evart Police Department, Michigan State Police and the Wexford County Sheriff’s Office.
