Trinity hosts annual auction, dinner event
REED CITY — Keeping local students in mind is the goal for organizers of the fourth annual We Care for Kids Auction and Dinner, which benefits Trinity Lutheran School in Reed City.
"It's a great social activity and it's a lot of fun," said event co-chair Rich Saladin. "It gets bigger every year and we continue to learn what people like to draw them to the event. There are a lot of great opportunities to get some great deals."
The event is set to begin with a silent auction from 5 to 7:15 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. and a live auction beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Holiday Inn in Big Rapids, 1005 Perry Ave.
More than 200 silent auction items are up for grabs, including gift cards, a Mackinac Island getaway, jewelry, seats at University of Michigan and Michigan State University basketball and football games. Other prizes include Disney Hopper passes, gift baskets, fishing trips and American Girl merchandise.
One of the largest prizes, however, is a trip out of state perfect for a family of four.
“This year we have added the 'Experience Chicago' trip for four donated by South Park Homes of Reed City,” said Saladin. “This includes an overnight stay at the Hard Rock Hotel on Michigan Avenue, four tickets to the Field Museum and to the Sky Deck at Willis Tower, and gift certificates to Garret’s Popcorn, Ghirardelli Chocolate and Giordano’s Pizza. It's a great trip for the family."
In addition, Rogers Jewlers is offering a raffle called "Champagne and Ice." For $20, event patrons can enjoy a glass of champagne and be in a drawing for a half-carat diamond worth $1,300.
"We see lots of community support, for which we're so thankful," Saladin added. "God has blessed us amazingly through the auction every year."
Tickets to the event are $30 each or you can reserve a table of 10 for $300. Each ticket includes a buffet dinner featuring carved roast, chicken cordon bleu, salads, sides and dessert. Door prizes also will be available for lucky attendees.
Saladin said he hopes they can raise more than $25,000 this year. Proceeds from the event support programming at the school, including extra-curricular activities, the Accelerated Reader program, field trips, the annual spring operetta and tuition assistance for families.
Tickets can be purchased in person at Dr. Amy Keller’s in downtown Reed City, Living Waters Bookstore in downtown Big Rapids or at the school, at 19778 W U.S. 10 in Reed City. The deadline to purchase tickets is Sunday, Feb. 22.
