Trinity celebrates LWML Sunday

Handmade quilts on display

REED CITY -- Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Reed City celebrated "LWML Sunday" on Oct. 3, showcasing the works of its Lutheran Women's Missionary League members.

For more than 40 years, Trinity's LWML members and others in the community have made quilts that are distributed to global, regional and local organizations, including, Lutheran World Relief, Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center, Women's Information Services, Inc., Our Brother's Keeper, Life Resources of Northern Michigan - Big Rapids, and Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids.

This year 193 quilts were created, all of which were on display during Trinity's "LWML Sunday" services.

In another Trinity tradition, teachers are allowed to pick one quilt from the collection during their first year of service with the school.

This year, teacher Ric Genthner, 7-8th grade, selected a hunting-inspired quilt.

Trinity's quilting team includes Marie Keller, Peggy Graham, Rosalee Donley, Carolyn Meinert, Karen Bluhm, Carol Burke, Rosemary Kailing, Norma Kienitz, Davene Campbell, Betty Newel, Bonnie Danzeisen and Leanne Woods.

Many other individuals donated materials to support the philanthropic effort.
