REED CITY - Three students from Trinity Lutheran School in Reed City have been named winners in the 52nd annual America & Me Essay Contest, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.

Caleb Gage, Logan Moser and Maclean Chatel were awarded first, second and third place honors, respectively.

Each received a certificate of achievement.

As first place winner, along with a certificate of achievement, Gage's name will be engraved on a plaque for permanent display at the school.

In addition, his first place essay advances to the state level competition, from which the top 10 essays in Michigan will be selected.

Those winners will be announced in April, and each will receive a plaque, a medallion and a cash award of $1,000.

Each top ten school will receive a $1,000 check, along with an additional $500 if the school is sponsored by a Farm Bureau Insurance agent.

Several thousand eighth grade students from nearly 200 Michigan schools participated in the 2020-21 America & Me essay contest, the topic of which was "My Personal Michigan Hero."

Started in 1968 and open to all Michigan eighth grade students, the contest encourages students to explore the greatness of America and its people.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic effecting in-person events, there will be no scheduled in-person awards presentation.

Winners will be notified and will receive their awards.

The awards will serve as an exciting honor of their commendable achievement.
