Trial underway for Eagle Village teacher

REED CITY — Jury selection began on Tuesday for the trial of an Eagle Village teacher accused of having sexual contact with one of her students.

Janet Brown is charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. Court proceedings are scheduled to run through the week, with a verdict expected on Friday.

Brown taught at Ashmun School at Eagle Village in Hersey, an adjudicated youth facility for troubled teens, until November 2012 when she was placed on unpaid administrative leave after her involvement with an underage student was discovered. Ashmun School, a separate entity from Eagle Village, is run by the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District.
