Tiara fun walk a success

REED CITY — It was a day filled with sunshine, sparkles and bubbles.

The second annual Reed City General Federation of Women's Club Tiara 5K Fun Walk took place on June 7 at the Reed City Depot. Women and men joined forces to walk in in support of Katie’s Kloset, a clothing pantry for GT Norman Elementary School. The group was able to raise $1400 this year and were pleased to have 61 walkers.

Several of the walkers were from nearby clubs including the Evart GFWC and Fran Leonard, the new GFWC State President from the Gun Lake GFWC club.

The GFWC group and its projects continue to grow. No matter what they take on, they have a fun time. Some people added a little embellishment to the usual tiaras and tshirts and he group even had an appearance from an Angry Bird.

The idea for the walk came about after losing a dear member, Katie Scharlow. Organizers of the walk thought people walking in tiaras would be a fun way to honor Katie, who loved everything about the Miss Reed City Pageant. She was a contestant, a winner and even a pageant emcee for a few years. Her memory continues to inspire the group to help others and as always, have a good time while doing it.
