Threat of flood contained in Reed City near dam

REED CITY — Concern for the Reed City dam near the airport was raised by the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Osceola County Road Commission.

A spillway has been constructed near the dam and dirt was brought in to raise up some of the low-lying area around the dam to reinforce the area against flooding.

Ron Howell, city manager for Reed City, said that the response was quick and everyone did what was needed to be done to prevent major flooding.

Due to snowfall Monday night, officials say that the water should crest and the threat of a flood would lessen even more.
