Theatre Guild hosts Cadillac Footliters production

'Curious Savage" to be performed April 4 and 5

REED CITY — What happens when a widow who inherits $10 million is thrown into a mental hospital by her stepchildren? To find the answer, community members can attend "Curious Savage," a play that will be performed by the Cadillac Footliters in Reed City during the first week of April.

The family friendly story is focused on the characters and centers around Ethel Savage's time in the asylum and the other patients she meets during her time in the building.

The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 at the Crossroads Theatre Guild's Performing Arts Center, 249 W. Upton Ave in Reed City.

"The play has a lot of heart and good emotion, " said Crossroads Theatre Guild Executive Board Chair Deb Lockwood. "It's really heartwarming."

Cadillac Footliters President Laura Porter believes members of the audience will enjoy the show, its characters and its humor.

"The people in the institution are hilarious," Porter said. "Through the play, you get to know them very well."

Ten actors are showcasing their talent during the production — some veterans, other novices. However, all are embracing their characters and making the most of the story.

"Our cast members are really enjoying it," Porter added. "The play is a positive, feel-good, funny entertainment."

Lockwood said the theater group collaboration is a fun experience for all involved, and gives the members a chance to support each other and simultaneously support the arts.

"It gives the Footliters another chance to perform the show, gives our community a chance to see it locally and it also promotes the fact that local theater is alive and well here," she added.

Tickets are $12 at the door or at the Reed City Depot. Concessions also will be available for purchase at the show.
