Teenage cyclist airlifted to hospital

EVART — Police say a dropped cell phone could be what caused an Evart girl to stop her bicycle before she was struck by a car on Tuesday.

Witnesses said the girl was traveling on Seventh Street near Oak Street in Evart around 10 p.m. when she was struck by an eastbound car. The driver of the car was not injured. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

The girl, whose name has not been released, was airlifted to a hospital in Grand Rapids in critical condition following the accident, which occurred on Seventh Street (U.S. 10) near Oak Street in Evart. Her condition as of Wednesday was not known, according to a press release from the Evart Police Department.

Evart Police, Evart Fire, Osceola County Emergency Medical Services and Evart Rescue responded to the scene.
