Reed City — Beautiful Rambadt Park in Reed City is the place to be this summer for families to express their creative side. The Art in the Park program is just part of the summer schedule of events available through Reed City’s Recreation Plan.

Funded by local business donations, the program is in place to bring families and friends of all ages together with a variety of activities. Donna Wheeler will be returning for what will be her 8th year organizing and running the art sessions. Armed with an SUV full of art supplies, she transforms the pavilion into an outdoor art studio for anyone who wants to come.

No matter what the session’s theme, there are projects specific to different ages so everyone in the family can participate. Art is a very important part of education that is often lacking in schools lately with budget issues. There are many studies that show children who are exposed to art, read better and generally get better grades in science and math classes. Art develops hand eye coordination, stimulates perception encourages creative thinking and allows freedom of expression.

Being able to create something brings joy and increases self esteem. Adults as well as children benefit from getting in touch with their inner artist.

Art in the Park is completely free and will be from 9-11am under the Pavilion at Rambadt Park in Reed City. Each scheduled Saturday will have projects for artists of all ages centered around a specific theme. Mark your calendars and bring the whole family out to the park for a fun filled morning.
