Student athletic programs take a stand against underage drinking

OSCEOLA COUNTY — According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “excessive alcohol use, including underage drinking and binge drinking can lead to increased risk of health problems such as injuries, violence, liver diseases, and cancer.”

Recognizing that underage drinking and drug use is a serious health risk, our Together We Can Health Improvement Council sent information this week encouraging schools to educate students, parents, and coaches on the hazards associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

They are promoting John Underwood’s program, Life of An Athlete. John Underwood is the president and founder of The American Athletic Institute. Students can take a free, online course at lifeofanathlete.com that teaches about the dangers of substance abuse, with an emphasis for athletes. To support your school taking a stand against substance abuse within its athletic programs, please consider contacting you local athletic director expressing your support for this program.
