EVART — Every year, the Saturday before Labor Day, Evart’s Riverside Park fills with cars in what has become one of the city’s signature summer events - the Evart Car Show

This year, Saturday, Sept. 3, hundreds of automobile aficionados will once again descend on the park to strut their stuff with some of the best examples of classic, and lovingly restored and modified cars.

The 18th Evart Car Show is sure to attract hundreds of participants and thousands of visitors to the comfortable surroundings at Riverside Park. Those taking part love to show off their own cars, and admire the handiwork of hundreds of other, like-minded car buffs.

This year, for the first time, the Car Club will sponsor a cruise of classic cars around the county - and further afield.

The Evart Street Cruize is set to go and those taking part will meet at the Ventra parking lot, (Evart Products), at 6 p.m. to begin a tour around the countryside.

Registration actually begins at 5 p.m., (and preregistration isn’t required.)

“We’re looking forward to a great time - and a great turnout,” reported event co-organizer Bill Bradley.

“From what we’ve heard already, we are hoping for 100 cars ...or more. There is always room for more.”

Bradley and fellow organizer Phil Dennis expect the tour will take about an hour.

Cars will leave Evart, loop around Chippewa Lake, and end up back in Evart after a beautiful drive through the late summer-early autumn landscape.

Everyone will end the drive at Twin Oaks, (formerly Club Shadows), where a good, ol’ fashioned sock hop awaits - in the best traditions of cruising the neigborhood.

A special guest at the event will be Todd Morawa and his 1966 Chevy Chevelle - the car that was awarded Best of Show at the 2011 Detroit Autorama.

Bradley noted that while this Cruize was especially planned for folks taking part in or visiting the Car Show, everyone is invited to take part and join “the parade.”
