Stepfather, stepson charged after steak fork assault in Osceola County

REED CITY — Michigan State Police are pursuing charges against an Osceola County resident who they say attempted to assault his teenage stepson.

Troopers were called to the family's Richmond Township home on the evening of March 5, where they found the man actively restraining a teenage boy, who was holding a 13-inch steak fork.

A witness told police the man assaulted the teen, and, in self defense, the boy stabbed him under the arm with the steak fork. Two children under the age of 5 also were present during the altercation.

The stepfather was transported that evening to Spectrum Hospital in Reed City for treatment of his injuries. Troopers are now seeking charges against him for domestic assault.

The juvenile was apprehended that evening and placed in an Osceola County Youth Facility, pending charges for assault with the intent to commit great bodily harm. Because of his minor status, his name was not released.

Michigan State Police will continue the investigation in partnership with Child Protective Services due to ongoing complaints of child abuse within the household.
