EVART — State Reps. Phil Potvin and Joel Johnson are hosting a special property tax seminar meeting in Evart on Feb. 23 to help residents of Osceola, Wexford, Mecosta, Clare and Gladwin counties learn how to appeal their property tax assessment.

The meeting is in the Community Room at the Evart Depot, 200 S. Main St. in Evart, from 7-8:30 p.m.

Guest presenter will be state Rep. Tom McMillin of Rochester Hills, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and business owner who also has served as chief financial officer for a diverse range of corporate clients.

“We thank Rep. McMillin for bringing his presentation on property tax assessments and the appeal process to our residents,” said Potvin, R-Cadillac. “His expertise and knowledge of the property tax system from his professional career and as a lawmaker provides helpful explanations and understanding for the audience.”

Johnson said there will be property tax information handouts and guides at the meeting, as well as a question and answer opportunity.

“The town hall meeting is a way to ensure that property owners are fully informed of their rights on property tax appeals or if people have questions about their bills,” said Johnson, R-Clare. “No advance registration is necessary to attend so people are welcome to stop by to listen and get information.”

Residents unable to attend but who would like a copy of the presentation materials may download the documents from the lawmakers’ websites — www.RepPhilPotvin.com or www.RepJoelJohnson.com.
