Some BIG bucks
OSCEOLA COUNTY — Opening Day throughout the area was unseasonably warm with nary a fleck of tracking snow, clear skies and bright open fields.
Not necessarily the best weather for the annual opener, but you get what there is and there were plenty of hunters out in blinds as the sun rose Sunday morning.
Reports vary. Some said there was a lot of shooting. Other’s reported hunting was pretty quiet. Whatever the case, a few lucky hunters — including Bruce Ermatinger from Kalamazoo — bagged some hefty bucks (right).
Ermatinger was hunting on his family’s homestead farm property north of Evart in Osceola County when he dropped this 10-point, 18 1/2 inch spread beauty early on Opening Day.
Ermatinger was the first deer brought in to the Evart Chamber of Commerce Big Buck contest and also ended up taking first place.
In second place was Karl Nelson with an 8-point, 17-inch spread beauty.
Bringing up third place was Wayne Nelson with a 10-point, 14-inch spread buck.
There’s still plenty of time to get your buck.
Be safe out there.
