EVART— Ty Sochocki had a big day on Saturday for Evart’s baseball team, which was 1-1 at the Lakeview Invitational.

The Wildcats dropped their first game to Belding 2-0. Danny Witbeck took the loss in going six innings and striking out seven batters.

Sochocki had two singles while Witbeck and Parker Henry had one apiece.

“That was a really good Belding team,” Evart coach Josh Johnson said. “They’re undefeated.”

Evart won the second game 15-0 over Custer Mason County Eastern. Troy Lodholtz was the winning pitcher, striking out five and walking one.

Sochocki had three singles, including a double and three RBIs.

Witbeck had a double and RBI, Billy Conklin a double and two RBIs, Justin O’Dell a single. Carter Pritchard a double and two RBIs, and Donavin Reagan and Christian Booher two singles and one RBI apiece.

“The first game was a tough loss because it was one of those games where we felt we could beat these guys,” Johnson said. “We were right in it. You learn a lot even from tough games you lose.”

Evart, 15-3, is home on Wednesday against Big Rapids.

The baseball team also swept the Lake City Trojans 19-9 and 8-0 on May 7.

In the first game, O’Dell was the winning pitcher, going five innings striking out five and walking three. He allowed seven hits and two earned runs.

Sochocki had a single while Danny Witbeck had a single and RBI. Pritchard had two singles and two RBIs.

Parker Henry had a single and RBI while Garrett Johnson had a single and two RBIs and Nate Sochocki had two singles and three RBIs.

Witbeck was the winning pitcher in the second game, which went five innings. He struck out six and didn’t walk anyone.

Pierce Johnson, Donavin Reagan and Sochocki had a single while Witbeck had two singles and RBI, Conklin and O’Dell had a single and double each. Garrett Johnson had a single and RBI.
