Semi truck driver suffers medical emergency, crashes in Osceola County

HIGHLAND TWP. — A semi truck driver was killed early Monday in a one-vehicle accident in Highland Township.

At 2:15 a.m., Osceola County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the crash on M-115 near 100th Avenue in Highland Township.

Preliminary investigation shows the semi truck was driving northeast on M-115 when the driver had a medical condition, ran off the roadway and struck an electric pole. The driver, a 51-year-old man from the Lake City area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing, but speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Marion Fire/Rescue and Osceola County EMS.
