REED CITY — Reed City Cub Scout Pack 174 is conducting their annual Scouting for Food drive now through Dec. 23.

Now in its 40th year, this community-wide event collects non-perishable items for local food pantries.

This year donations will go to the Osceola-Mecosta Project Starburst food pantry, which helps struggling families and individuals needing assistance.

“Area residents have always been so generous with their non-perishable food donations in the past years,” Cubmaster Russ Nehmer said. “As the holiday season approaches, let’s continue to be mindful of those who may be struggling financially to put food on their tables.”

In addition to staples such as canned veggies and fruits, tuna and soups, dry pasta, rice, beans, and cereal (both cold and hot), other items being requested include mayonnaise, peanut butter, jelly, ketchup, mustard, pancake mix, and pancake syrup.

Cooking oil, toilet paper, baby wipes, baby food or toiletries are also accepted.

It is respectfully requested that donors do not send in food items past their expiration dates.

Collection boxes will be located at the following businesses: Huntington Bank, Lake-Osceola State Bank, Hometown Pharmacy, Reed City Tire, Family Dollar, Yoplait, Tubelite Inc., Ebels, Ace Hardware, Family Farm and Home, Pompeii’s, City Hall and the Reed City Area District Library.

“Scouting for Food would not be possible without the support of area businesses and our wonderful residents,” Nehmer said. “We thank you again for your support in this great community cause.”
